The new six-level, 1,050-space, precast concrete garage encourages use of the Fairfax County transit Center and the safety of cyclists and pedestrians, while also supporting carpooling and commuting opportunities of the Springfield residents and commuters.
Walker provided functional design and consulting and structural engineering. The new garage features seven bus bays, slug lanes for HOV access to local lanes, and free and more accessible parking options.
The over-height area at the ground tier slug lanes can allow for weekend use of slug lanes for farmers’ markets and food trucks.
Amenities include EV charging stations, bicycle storage, a roof top pocket park and a pedestrian bridge that transitions from the garage to the Springfield Plaza.
