About The Project

Ashburn Station is a Washington Metro station in Loudoun County, Virginia, located on the Silver Line at the southwest corner of Metro Center Drive and Gramercy Park Drive. The garage is part of a mixed-use development with 18,000 SF retail space at grade. Walker provided structural engineering and functional design services for the 1,530-space, 9-level precast prestressed concrete parking structure with a loading dock/dumpster area integrated within the ground-tier retail parking area. Key features include:

  • Integrated retail space at the ground tier with a segregated parking area for shoppers
  • Metro parking area controlled by a parking access revenue control system
  • A bike room is enclosed with mesh and with electric locks
  • The façade was designed to accommodate the load of a large-scale LED display should the owner want to add an interactive component in the future
The project was a collaborative effort for Loudoun County led by the developer to support a more extensive billion-dollar development for the new transit corridor. The design met the high expectations to surpass the aesthetics of a typical garage and a short schedule: twelve months for the design and sixteen months for construction. The design team’s approach to quality control ensured the team delivered the project on schedule and budget with minimal change orders.
